A new era of Knights Baseball starts now! Chad Pinder has been named the Charlotte Knights Manager for the 2026 season. Let's get to work.
Paul Janish said he recently talked with LHP Noah Schultz and he feels good and all is good to go with pitchers and catchers reporting February 10.
Jayson Nix takes over as manager at @Kcannonballers. What's one of Nix's main claims to fame as part of the White Sox, aside from the fact I covered him as a player? But I covered Ed Walsh as a player, so that's a big group.
"We weren’t close," Getz told me on Imai. "We weren’t close." When I asked if it was accurate the team had expressed interest but was not close, Getz responded with, “Correct.” Here's today's Newsletter: links.mlb.mlbemail.com/s/vb/TWDrmJoeD…
I had an interesting talk with Getz recently, much of which will be coming soon to a MLB.com near you. But in my Newsletter today, Getz briefly addressed the team's reported interest in free agent hurler Tatsuya Imai, who signed with the Astros:
Getz on Robert: "Obviously the talent is real. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the consistency that he had hoped or we had hoped. I know that he cares about the game deeply, he wants to play well. It’s a challenging game. I know injuries have really held him back."
More Getz: "... I don’t know what else they were working on. I’ve got a good relationship with David Stearns. When you sense urgency and know something is real, you usually want to engage on it."
Getz on the Mets/Robert: "They have had interest in Luis for a while. They have. I would say yesterday morning is when they felt like they were at a decision point ...
More Getz: "... That could come in starting pitching, relievers, balancing right-handed vs. left-handed. So we are very open minded and excited in getting to work in being creative and bringing in that talent."
Getz on specific roster areas to target now: "All areas. I know when you move on from a Luis Robert, there’s an assumption that a certain position needs to be filled. But it’s increasing talent on the team to help us win ballgames...
Getz: "In general, I think we are going to be very active" when asked if his outfield is set. They anticipate a roster that is going to continue to evolve. "We've got some financial flexibility now to continue to bring in talent."
Longest current tenured White Sox player by White Sox service time, if my calculations are correct: RHP Davis Martin
Robert was a tireless worker, a supremely talented player and a really solid fit in the White Sox clubhouse. He also handled 1 1/2 years of trade rumors about as well as anyone could be expected. His issue is staying healthy, which he has discussed. If he does, he'll thrive.
Luis Robert Jr. was traded by the White Sox on the same day I bought a new car for the first time since George W. Bush was President (2001).
Carlos Beltran and @andruwjones25 are 2026 Hall of Fame electees. Jones played for the White Sox in 2010 and launched 19 home runs. In his sixth year on the ballot, Mark Buehrle had his highest level of support at 20 percent.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of three-time All-Star Wilbur Wood. A left-handed knuckleballer, Wood spent 12 of his 17 Major League seasons with the White Sox from 1967-78. The Massachusetts native also spent time with the Red Sox and Pirates. After mastering the…
