Ah, Deathstalker and the golden days of fantasy movies, when peasant women wore thongs under their sackcloth, rape was a past time for hero and villain alike, and no actress got a part unless they were going to show their tits.
Good to see the return of the V/H/S franchise is generally of higher quality and consistency than the first three, though that consistency make the 99 anthology entries a little more cookie cutter in storyline, except for the Flying Lotus contribution, which is batshit crazy!
After a needed hiatus in the series, V/H/S/94 manages a decent crop of found footage pieces (though with a pretty nonsensical frame), and notably a batshit crazy offering from Indonesia’s Timo Tjahjanto, to revive interest again in further installments. #horrormovie
Bigtime respect and praise to Nacho Vigalondo for his utterly oddball segment that twists multiverse stories before there was even a craze, but unfortunately this gem gets sandwiched amongs a heap of tired faux-foundfootage in V/H/S: Viral. #HorrorMovies #halloween2024

If you were to ask how much more French you can find than She Is Conann, I would have to say that there is little more French you could put into it, that you will have hit the epitome of Frenchness and so therefore no, there is none more French to be had than She Is Conann.
Dinner party horror turns itself to 11 for the original Speak No Evil (2022), which looks at how etiquette and not wanting to offend and even our own empathy can be weaponized (in the wrong direction) by those who are manipulative and heartless enough to use it. #HorrorMovies

While it makes sense that Time Bandits was canceled so quickly, as it lacked much in the way of plot and over time also lost the great vibe of Waititi’s knack for widening representation, I can’t help but feel that stretching it to ten episodes was a set up for failure.
Ah, the era of cheap fantasy movies to reap in the D&D nerds (like me), and Hawk the Slayer is a particularly campy installment, with its Spock-like elf, bows set to automatic, dwarves who aren’t, and of course Jack Palance palancing about with a sword he holds like a shotgun.
Remove the body horror, and Are We Not Cats follows indie film blueprint—two oddballs meet and find a unique connection—which distinguishes itself from the scads of others but also shares the problem that its content choices become ways to differentiate than to deepen meaning.
Though it’s strange to see a sequel trailer that almost apologizes for the original in professing itself as better, V/H/S/2 actually DOES supersede the first, although in a flipped way, starting off meh but then following through with some gem segments. #HorrorMovies
The real horror of Megan Is Missing is director Michael Goi’s faux-cautionary stance, pretending that the movie isn’t exploitive by throwing a (THIN!) veneer of social relevance over work that actually thrills in its gaze of young girls being raped and tortured. #HorrorMovies
While the first watch of Zach Cregger’s Barbarian will elicit a Holy Shit from you for its bewildering moves and creativity, the second watch will elicit another Holy Shit from you for how all those bewildering moves fit together into a brilliant, solid and original whole.
The core conceit behind each Yorgos Lanthimos movie is brilliantly simple, though the approach usually takes a while to clarify but Poor Things doesn’t take long to show us how this is the story of a woman exploring and revising the world around her despite its desire to own her
Lisa Frankenstein has a fun spirit behind it, the stuff of horror comedy, but alas it just doesn’t seem to be able to sustain that creative energy for the full runtime, though it could have upended both the horror and romcom genre. #HorrorMovies #romcom #RomanceGems
Bodies Bodies Bodies has the inner turmoil among friends, that make for intense horror movies…but this iteration falls victim to easy jokes and not enough brutality, frankly, as well as twist mentality rather than let us see everything fall apart. #HorrorMovies #horrormovie
