#politicslive 🤯 remarkably poor quality exchanges between frontline politicians 😔

👏👏👏👏👏

PS There’s a stat I’ve never been able to source that local govt went from controlling 90% of spending in 1900 to 10% of (much larger) spending in 2000. We probably need to devolve at least one big tax, possibly more.

5 things government could do for music ed (England): 1) Make music mandatory in all schools, all pupils 2) Overhaul music teacher training & recruit more 3) Make music a key issue in Ofsted inspections 4) Double the music hub grant 5) Manage music hubs directly from DFE

Dining table reflections: we’ve got a lively one here… Asked by my principal stakeholder ‘do you know why judges wear wigs?’….daughter no.2: ‘to intimidate the proletariat?’….

Hear hear. Great stuff and welcome @RuthKiang 👏👏👏

This is brilliant news. Ruth's combination of experiences as a professional singer and arts manager will be an enormous asset to Cambridge Handel Opera Company as we start our next Act. Happy We! 🎶

This is an excellent appointment. ✅

Very glad to have been elected to the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy (@JointCtteNSS) at this essential time where Britain needs to develop its strategy. Looking forward to rolling my sleeves up and getting stuck in!

Spot on @TomFrackowiak (but rather suspect this isn’t the platform to make the point anymore…)

Commentators who keep dismissing Farage and the Reform project in the UK need to wake up. The lessons from #USAElection2024 are very clear 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Bucketlist of questions. #PMQs 👏👏👏 @RishiSunak

Standard family road trip listening to playlist consisting of @HH_World songs. The question on everyone’s lips about the genius performers from HH and #Ghosts is ‘what’s next?’…

To be honest it would be more newsworthy if #Cabinet #Ministers hadn’t written to the #Chancellor protesting potential cuts to their departmental budgets. You’d be a pretty rubbish advocate for your policy portfolio if you thought it needed less not more #investment. #notnews

I gave myself a couple of hours to summarise what I thought of the Industrial Strategy consultation out yesterday. 24 hours later I still think it is pretty good ... 1/

Is Invest 2035 a success? @Gilesyb says there is much to welcome in the latest incarnation of government industrial strategy. But in the next phase, there needs to be a further sharpening of its focus👇 instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/invest…

Timely report given the near permanent #invesment focus at the moment and desperate need for smarter infrastructure spend. Great taster here from the excellent @Sam_Dumitriu - looking forward to reading the full report from the NIC.

New: National Infrastructure Commission publish major report looking into the underlying causes of the UK's high infrastructure costs. Here are some of the key insights. 🧵
