Commercials for depression in the 90s named the cause as low levels of serotonin. With no mention of toxic marriages, unhealthy workplaces, financial stress, or unresolved trauma. Depression is a response. A natural response to unnatural environments.
People often don't see their own damage. You can have a seemingly normal upbringing and, due to various reasons, have all sorts of trauma. Those set triggers that will cause reactions they aren't aware of

HOW TO HELP SOMEONE THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIME: 1. Make them a home cooked meal and drop it off. 2. Listen without giving advice. 3. Offer to do a task or chore to lessen their load. 4. Send them a text that you’re thinking them and are there if they need to talk
A core sign you're with someone who's emotionally mature is they can talk things out, listen to how you feel, and not flee anything there is conflict.
