Unfortunately its the other way round for mink & water voles. Water voles have no defence mechanisms from non-native mink like they do from native predators. Normally they hide in their burrows, but female & juvenile mink can fit down a water vole burrow. Nowhere left to hide!
When animals have evolved together they develop defence mechanisms against native predators, it's when the non-natives arrive that things are out of sync. Grey squirrels at a disadvantage here. bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

Spent a stormy day unblocking a stretch of the Hercules burn in Arbroath– lots of full poo bags and litter taken out too. We used all the blockages to build wildlife habitat 🐛🦋🐌🐚🐟🐸
Thanks to the volunteers who helped me tidy the bluebell wood this morning. We pruned back some limbs (not human one's) and used the wind fallen timber to make new habitat for wildlife. We had just finished a new one when a Robin moved into his/her penthouse twig flat. #wildlife
