A4: I notice that they're keeping track of how many times they've counted with their fingers. I wonder if they feel ready to engage with a more efficient strategy. #ElemMathChat
OH! I love that they knew if the first row of 3s equaled 12, then the second row must also equal 12! #ElemMathChat
Not sure that I noticed the student doing much of anything, but I love that the early foundations of counting by ones and skip counting are represented here! It's easy to forget how foundational that is for multiplication. #ElemMathChat
A3: I notice a lot of threes and sixes, and not a lot of open space. I won't if the students are being asked to develop multiplicative thinking, and what the questions are that we can't see! #ElemMathChat
Q2(?) I define assessment as assessing what a student knows by examining their thinking (orally, written, diagrams, whatever). This can be through interviews, circulating while they engage with a task, or what we typically think of when we hear "assessment" #ElemMathChat
A2: I guess it depends on your definition of typical. For me: Ss are doing the heavy lifting and giving answers based on their existing knowledge and curiosity. Ts are annotating, asking follow-up ?s or prompting Ss to make connections across their ideas. #ElemMathChat
A1: I noticed the shapes in the left circle all have same sized interior angles, the shapes in the right circle all have four equal length sides, the square is happily sitting in the middle, and that poor isosceles trapezoid is all alone. #ElemMathChat
