#ElFasher came under #RSF assault today but apparently was not overrun. Nevertheless, the crisis remains profound and requires sustained attention from the UN Security Council, beyond an #ArmsEmbargo. The war has been devastating. #Sudan #Darfur @PrevGenocide

A UN fact finding panel on #Sudan has called for a peacekeeping force, strengthened accountability, arms embargo, and more expansive humanitarian aid. Will the #UN respond with the attention this case deserves? @PrevGenocide

79 years ago, the US dropped the first of two #atomicbombs on Japan. And yet we still live under the shadow of nuclear war and annihilation. We must do better. #Hiroshima @PrevGenocide @globalcmrpt

4️⃣ points about El Fasher UNSC resolution: 1. Wouldn’t have happened without each + all of folks below; 2. isn’t enough but a start; 3. UNSC action needed months ago; 4. Struggle for rez shows how fusion of ground voices, realtime info/analysis essential for successful advocacy

A huge well done to all those who've been doing heroic advocacy to help make this happen @KholoodKhair @WordsAreDeeds @nattyray11 @yonahdiamond @YasmineAhmed001 & so many more. So much more to do to ensure Sudanese civilians are protected but this is a crucial step.

#ElFasher in #Darfur, #Sudan is expected to fall very soon to the #RSF rebels. This is a humanitarian catastrophe for civilians, and requires an immediate plan and response from the UN Sec Council and regional powers. Time has run out. @PrevGenocide @globalcmrpt

As one of the experts having warned about fighting in El Fasher, the nightmare scenario we have worried about since July appears to be beginning to unfold.

🚨🚨🚨🚨 Experts have repeatedly warned over the past year about the prospect for mass atrocities in a fight for El Fasher & N #Darfur. As the fighting there now escalates, hard not to wonder what mediators & other stakeholders could have done differently to avert this. #Sudan

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the #RwandanGenocide. At the time, the world turned its back on the mass slaughter of civilians, and proclaimed never again. And yet here we are.
