I’m going to Guatemala and Honduras for a few days in search of pyramids so I’m sharing this thread I wrote a while back on the connections between Star Trek and Mesoamerican archaeology.

WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. Besides Star Trek, another long standing interest of mine is Mesoamerican history and archaeology. You wouldn’t think there are a lot of connections between the two, but there are a few, so I thought I’d write a short thread about them… 1/

I’m going on a trip and am currently stomping around the airport with my phone on low battery trying to find a single electrical outlet that’s not either being used or broken…

R.I.P. to Trek director Ralph Senensky. An absolute legend whose contributions to Star Trek will be remembered.

The odd-numbered Star Trek films are often considered the weaker ones. I’m not saying I agree with that or not, but I think one thing they all have in common is they have some of DeForest Kelley’s *best* moments.

I was listening to an interesting interview with @BenStiller (a big Star Trek fan btw) where he mentioned how fear is often a motivating factor in choosing a creative project, and I was reminded of Leonard Nimoy saying something similar in an interview near the end of his life:

In some ways it’s a blessing the Star Trek Phase II never got made… you can see just enough of its aesthetic impact on TMP to be interesting, but the delay allowed Star Trek to just barely dodge the Disco Era…
