The Hardest Thing To Explain Is The Glaringly Evident Which Everybody Has Decided Not To See—Dominique Francon in Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead

The Libertarian argument against Social Security isn’t just ineffective. It actively shields Social Security from legitimate criticism by affirming the underlying misconception that keeps the program so popular. Libertarians are Social Security’s perfect controlled opposition.

This is what controlled opposition looks like. Social Security remains popular not because of any quality arguments being made by its advocates, but because of the self-defeating arguments being made by its critics.

Who can spot his fatal conceit?

I’ll never understand why it’s my job to subsidize Boomer retirement. Social Security shouldn’t exist, I should be able to invest my money how I see fit. It’s not my problem what happens to those who didn’t plan for retirement.

Boomers retired (or semi-retired) so they stopped complaining about income tax and all the other taxes which come with being an active, productive citizen Now they complain about what is essentially the only tax they still have to pay

Ron DeSantis on property taxes: "If I go to Best Buy and buy a TV, I pay a sales tax—but I don’t keep paying taxes on it year after year!"

Social Security should not be abolished, it should be precisely reversed. Olds (25+) should fund the lifestyle of the youth

When I say “fight them on the hill THEY are willing to die on” I’m only being semi-hyperbolic.

I will fight to my dying breath to protect Social Security for AMERICAN CITIZENS - The best way to do that is to kick every single illegal immigrant currently defrauding taxpayers to get Social Security benefits that they don't deserve off of the system.

Social Security fits firmly under the umbrella of fascism, but I still love the energy here.

Sorry boomers, social security is socialism Wanting social security makes you a socialist If you want social security you are willing to rob the future of young americans simply because they also robbed you at one point

“Can you see that this isn’t sustainable” This qualifier implies that our runaway debt isn’t negatively effecting our current economic condition. Truth: Our runaway debt (including entitlements) is THE PRIMARY CULPRIT as to why young people feel themselves becoming poorer.

Truth: Our runaway debt (including entitlements) is THE PRIMARY CULPRIT as to why young people feel themselves becoming poorer.

This is the mindset that must be overcome. Social Security is not some Sword of Damocles hanging over our head. It is a primary culprit in the increasing financial struggles of tens of millions of young families. We are already paying the price.

#IDontWantToOverreactBUT, the Social Security Trust Fund is going broke and people are ignoring it until the crap hits the fan as usual...

This is exactly how NOT to think about Social Security. The Entitlement State’s survival is dependent on this comparison remaining the standard. Comparisons like this one operate as controlled opposition, keeping the conversation focused on the future, instead of the present.

This is the only way to think about it. The questions are "How much money will be returned to me vs what I paid?" and "How much would I have turned that money into had it not been plundered from me?"

END Social Security, it’s a socialist scam. I shouldn’t have to pay for the boomers retirement. None of the generations after me should have to pay for my retirement.

The reason they don’t want jobs going overseas is they can’t exploit overseas workers.

Thank you @BassProShops for bringing jobs back to America! New jobs are essential to ensuring the long-term viability of Social Security and Medicare.

The pay-off for all of this ever increasing debt, public and private, is in the price of everything we buy. That's why the young can't afford a life that we had. They are paying old' people's debts.

Social security is a failed system that takes young people’s taxes to subsidize the wealthiest generation in Human history. Old people have enough money as is.

No catastrophe quite like *checks notes* a predictable 20% reduction in the largest government program in history.

Social Security is a $22 trillion Ponzi scheme. The collapse will be catastrophic.

Another display of supreme ignorance from the people who ought to know better. Sad

Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme in history. The program will be bankrupt before most people paying into it today will see a dime.

Do these ignoramuses really not understand what’s going on with the largest government program in history?

Social Security WILL collapse, it is a matter of when and not if. If you are under the age of 50 I would start making preparations now for your retirement and assume you will get zero dollars.

The government isn’t investing for our retirement you fucking morons.

No one under 50 wants to hassle with Social Security being taken out of their paychecks. People can invest for retirement better than the government.
