Of the many crimes committed every day against civilians in Gaza, in Sudan, in Ukraine and unfortunately in many other places, killing mothers and their children is the one that wounds and denies humanity more than any other. We think of this especially today, on #MothersDay.
Increasingly, displaced persons, including women and girls, are remaining in cities for longer, on average 10 years. Cities' interventions to sustainably integrate such populations are more impactful with a gender inclusive approach: blogs.worldbank.org/sustainablecit…
My recently co-authored blog talk about how disproportionate percentage of 114 million forcibly displaced people around the world are women and children, with majority of them moving to cities #wbg_cities #gender #Refugee #IDPs #Gendergap
With more displaced women and girls living in cities, basic services are needed to ensure their safety, help find jobs, and provide housing, education, and healthcare. New research on the topic offers some solutions. Learn more 👇 blogs.worldbank.org/sustainablecit…
Recently i co-led a report on #Gender and #ForcedDisplacement in #Cities, which highlights that since most displaced persons (esp. #women) choose to remain in cities for prolonged time, interventions need to focus on how to sustainably integrate them into existing #urban fabric

People in Gaza are dying not only from bombs and bullets, but from lack of food & clean water, and hospitals without power & medicine. This must stop. I will not relent in my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages.
The Israeli bombing of the Jabalia refugee camp is horrific and unacceptable. Thousands, many children, are dead in Gaza and the numbers are likely to climb. It is past time for a ceasefire, so that humanitarian aid and relief can reach Palestinians trapped inside Gaza.
📚 Learning from Hiroshima's experience: As cities in Europe & Central Asia face adversity, Hiroshima offers guidance. By fostering global partnerships & sharing knowledge, we can build a more resilient, sustainable urban future. 🌆wrld.bg/WbMO50Om9BS
