People think a worldwide team = $4 / hr assistants who can barely speak english. THEY COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG. I am building executive teams for 80% cheaper than hiring Americans. Sales Director. COO. Developers. Operations Managers. Head of Finance. The world is your oyster.
Newton's law of tax: What goes down must come up. Everyone enjoys the sweet benefits of bonus depreciation, but what happens when you sell? A post on recapture. People are concerned about recapture when they cost segregate their improvements and for good reason. Recapture is…
2) Not selling myself enough: I could have sold myself & my team at Bolt Storage more as the best steward of these assets. Plus, I could have shown more urgency with my closing timelines to get the deal done. Ultimately, I didn’t do either & I lost the deal.
As you can imagine, I was pretty frustrated at the time. But that’s the game of business! You win some, you lose some. Over time, I know I’ll get more opportunities to acquire portfolios of this size in a single deal. I’m waiting & I won’t repeat the same mistakes again.
The goal should be to have enough money that it doesn't make sense to have a mortgage. Brain damage to make a bit of delta on the low interest rate just isn't worth it.
Its a good day to throw your kids video game system in the garbage!
Careers (and entrepreneurial journeys) are not linear. You expect them to be but they aren't. Sometimes you end up making little progress for several years and then you make several years of progress in 6-12 months. That's just part of it.
Most adult men have no business eating over 100 grams of protein per day.
A few examples of sweaty startups hiding in plain sight:
A mindset shift that really changed my life: Walk into every single interaction with the goal of adding as much value as humanly possible. Don't think about charging money, withholding info, etc. Prove you know your stuff. Help in a massive way. Gain trust. Profit later.
He said Nick most folks walk out of here and sign up with me on the spot. Many others call me back and sign on 6 mo later when they need advice on something else. I don’t worry about the $ on day one. I show them I can help and the $ takes care of itself.
Disclaimer: This is not a recommendation to start dishing out time to everyone and anyone who asks for it. Don't let yourself get taken advantage of and be very picky who you interact with. But when you do interact with someone, blow them away!
Sometimes I wonder why I'm qualified. What makes me somebody who can log in and give people advice about marriage, business, longevity, parenting, making money. Listen at your own risk!
The key to a happy life: Marry somebody who doesn't get stressed out about little things. Life is hard. Going through it with somebody who makes a big deal out of non-issue stuff is hell.
The richest people I know all worked hard on something boring for 5+ years. And most did this for 10-20+ years. People have gotten the totally wrong idea about what it means to be an early stage entrepreneur. They truly believe that in less than a year they can launch a life.
I your kid has a video game system in their bedroom you have failed as a parent.
The truth about life is that it's hard for everyone in different ways:
One of our clients deferred $85,144 in taxes. Here’s how: In 2023 theyy acquired a 1,386 square foot condo used as a rental property for $824,000. The law doesn’t allow them to deduct the full $824,000 against their taxes in year 1, so our team had to figure out the useful…
Bad advice that is constantly preached to young people: “Follow your passion and make money doing what you love” even if that means being underpaid and struggling financially. Good advice: “Make money chasing an opportunity now and then spend your time doing what you love.
My 8 year old is very into books. Goosebumps, Boxcar Children, etc. We go to the store and he wants books. Also hasn't looked at a tablet in several years. Proud of that.
