We commend a bipartisan group of 60 Senators for reintroducing the CONNECT for Health Act, which would make permanent various COVID-era flexibilities increasing telemedicine access, such as removing geographic restrictions. A similar bill has been introduced in the House.

#Juneteenth marks a milestone in the ending of slavery in America, the contributions of Black Americans, as well as the progress still to be made. Telemedicine, #telehospitalists in particular, can reduce health disparities by increasing marginalized communities’ access to care.

Programs like this provide struggling #hospitals with a needed respite, but their impact is likely to be temporary without addressing structural weaknesses such as shortages of physicians like #hospitalists and local hospital bypass.

But how many part-time/temporary care providers can a hospital use before care quality suffers? #Telemedicine providers in hard-to-fill positions like #nocturnists can lower pressure on full-time #hospitalists, while providing continuity in overnight care. bit.ly/45iLnxy

The growing number of disorderly patients is another potential challenge for #telehospitalists, who must have the interpersonal skills to “read” a situation and if necessary de-escalate it without actually being in the room. todayshospitalist.com/violence-preve… via @TodaysHospital

#Ruralhospitals and urban #safetynethospitals can learn much from each other about meeting the challenges of caring for #underserved populations, e.g., by using virtual care providers like #telehospitalists to meet staffing needs and shore up finances. bit.ly/3IiK9IO

#Hospitalists wear so many hats already, and their role is continually expanding. Could this be one of the root causes of hospitalist #burnout, making it difficult to define realistic goals and performance targets for them that everybody concerned understands and buys into?

How do you identify your main role in hospital medicine?⚕️ Head over to @JHospMedicine to introduce yourself! 👋#JHMChat

Bye-bye #telemedicine cart? It may be a little early to say goodbye yet, but cart alternatives like telemedicine headsets and integrated telemedicine rooms are attracting increased interest. bit.ly/44ZNq9M

Today, #InternationalNursesDay, highlights nurses’ vital role in nearly every area of healthcare. Nurses are an indispensable part of our #telehospitalist practice, acting as bedside facilitators as well as caring for some patients virtually themselves.

The #PHE ends today, but not its impact on #hospitalmedicine: financially strapped hospitals looking for cost savings, stressed-out hospitalists re-evaluating their career paths; new non-hospital care options. All these signs point to a growing demand for #telehospitalists.

These fellowships ideally will expose fellows to #telemedicine technologies and best practices, which are expected to play a growing role in the #hospitalist medicine of the future.

Hospital medicine fellowships are becoming increasingly popular to provide early-career clinicians with a chance to explore possibilities in hospital medicine and help them define their career path. the-hospitalist.org/hospitalist/ar…

We hear a lot about hospitalist #burnout and the “Big Quit”, but the fact is, many hospitalists love their jobs. Our #telehospitalists bring a similar commitment to their work, despite not being in the room with the patient.

This is #NationalHospitalWeek, when we recognize the contributions of the nation’s 5,000 #hospitals. The hospital system has been severely tested by the pandemic, severe financial difficulties and a stressed-out workforce, but we are confident it is up to the challenges ahead.
