Skokholm Island back in July 2023 - possibly the first time ever seen via my infra-red cameras, the hatching of a Storm Petrel this year in Chamber 64 - Petrel Station in the quarry. Watch out for Petrel Station 2 coming in 2025! 🤞🙏 @SkokholmIsland @TFOSAS @WTSWW @WTWales

The first 4% of our Manx Shearwater chicks have now fledged, that's about 2500 youngsters heading out into the Atlantic. Tens of thousands more will be departing over the next few weeks.

One of the Storm Petrels handled last night was ringed in Petrel Station box 11 by @billsbirding in 2019. Thirty birds later and we handled one ringed by @JodiemHenderson in 2021, from the very same box 11!!! Two probable siblings flying around together.

It has always fascinated us how Storm Petrels manage to find their nest crevice amongst a sea of similar nest crevices. Are they scent marking their abodes with a unique oily concoction different enough from that of their neighbours? Great Petrel Station footage from @Payne1pro

We would like to say a huge thank you to @TFOSAS who purchased the recycled plastic Puffin burrow posts for Crab Bay. It will be fascinating to see what proportion of pairs fledge a chick.

Put your feet up and delve into the facts and stories of 2021 on Skokholm Island. Great, thorough piece of work as usual by the wardens 👍

Phenomenal work over on #Skomer last week, after a shipwreck on 7th Dec. Thankfully our monitoring and surveillance has shown no rats accessed the island following the wreck. A huge #diolch to everyone who lent a hand (and paw!) 🐾 @biosecurityLIFE @RSPBRamsey @PCNPAEducation

Skomer Island update Lisa Morgan, Head of Islands and Marine, said "There was no doubt that a full incursion response was required, and we had 48 hours to make it happen" Thankfully, no rats were found. Read Lisa's blog welshwildlife.org/blog/skomer-is… @biosecurityLIFE @PCNPAEducation
