Will @LibDems stand up for civil liberties? @liberal_reform have condemned the Online Safety Act for its threat to privacy and free exchange of information for millions of people. The pressure is on to oppose this "poorly drafted legislation". libdemvoice.org/we-have-a-dutyโฆ

The Online Safety Act censored one of my posts on lactose intolerance. It censored another where I mentioned donkeys, and my friend can't see one of my posts on Neanderthals processing fat. If you support the Online Safety Act, you are an imbecile.
If you want to overturn the Online Safety Act you are on the side of predators. It is as simple as that.

This is just completely ridiculous, the idea that adults using VPNs are somehow endangering children is absurd. Adults don't have an obligation to hand over their personal information in order to browse r/cider
These Online Safety Act protections are the biggest step forward in child safety since the internet was created. My words on @BBCBreakfast this morning ๐ท
Iโve spent 10 years in the tech industry. Anybody who thinks the Online Safety Act is protecting children is utterly delusional and frankly, they are technologically illiterate and unqualified to have an opinion on this matter.

Even Owen Jones and Novara Media are against the Online Safety Act, written by the Conservatives, now defended by Labour. Maybe it's not a partisan thing youtube.com/watch?v=dfl_ksโฆ

The fact that Ed Davey still has 44% don't know or don't have an opinion really shows that we as a party need to do more to grab media coverage, like Reform does - and get Ed Davey out there again. (please no more stunts tho)

5 problems with the Online Safety Act - a thread ๐งต 1. It is too broad in scope, it targets Wikipedia and the free exchange of information. A crucial principle in a democratic society.
For UK citizens, if you're upset and angry about the Online Safety Act. Sign the damned petition even if you think it won't work! Email your MP about the act and say why you think it's all about censorship and control! Talk to your offline friends about the Act!
This is nonsense. the Online Safety Act isn't at all fit for purpose and actively puts the online safety and personal data of UK citizens at risk. I spent 7 years in the police, 5 of which in safeguarding roles. I know the damage that unfettered internet use can do to children,โฆ

Two groups have VERY different views of the UK's draconian new online safety law: 1) The "think-of-the-children" brigade, without a technical bone in their bodies, love its [totally false sense of] security. This includes all the MPs who voted for it. 2) Tech savvy people areโฆ
Wikipediaโs legal case was heard at the Royal Court of Justice on July 22-23, and a ruling is expected within a month or so. However, if their legal arguments are rejected and they refuse to implement Category 1 rules, the UK government could block access to Wikipedia entirely.
This stuff is really only just starting, the issues over the last week have been OFCOM kicking off over providers not conducting risk assessments - they havenโt even started enforcing powers around content duties or prior restraint (stopping posts before theyโre even posted)
