Whats the difference between an aerostat and a blimp? Aerostats are lighter-than-air platforms that use helium to create lift. Unlike a blimp, aerostats are attached to the ground with one or more tethers. Altaeros aerostats have 3 tethers to reduce the risk of a breakaway.
