Fighting everyday algorithmism
How long do humans need to know each other before they can truly judge their compatibility as life partners? Answer: Just a little longer than the time it takes to #FriendZone each other for feeling too close and familiar to start a relationship. #TheAlgorithm sees the flaws.
But humans decided how the algorithm should behave and how much they should trust it.
WTF: A face-scanning algorithm increasingly decides whether you deserve the job washingtonpost.com/technology/201…
"No humans involved"? Who do they think created The Algorithm? Don't be fooled by "it's not us, it's the computer".
Banks use algorithms to determine your credit worthiness, the terms of the loan and the interest rate. No humans involved. This is why claims that lenders are racist fail. The banks really don’t care a damn who you are.
Always the fault of the algorithm - never the humans who were paid to create and refine it
She spoke to two Apple reps. Both very nice, courteous people representing an utterly broken and reprehensible system. The first person was like “I don’t know why, but I swear we’re not discriminating, IT’S JUST THE ALGORITHM”. I shit you not. “IT’S JUST THE ALGORITHM!”.
The @AppleCard is such a fucking sexist program. My wife and I filed joint tax returns, live in a community-property state, and have been married for a long time. Yet Apple’s black box algorithm thinks I deserve 20x the credit limit she does. No appeals work.
Never doubt #TheAlgorithm Thanks to Machine Learning, the mistakes that humans once made are being eradicated. If humans were involved at any point in this success, it was probably only so that they could fist-bump each other when they saw how flawless #TheAlgorithm had become.
My Summer Rewind playlist on @SpotifyUK is amazing. The algorithm is very clever. That, or an actual human put it together.
Until #TheAlgorithm reads your tweet and makes its next move. [Humans always think aloud.]
As I tweeted earlier. Algorithms can be manipulated If we all Google the phrase: Brexit bus It will stop his stupid game. It is already working.
Was it a particularly.. dirty.. truck? Maybe the photo was of its back side. In either case, an algorithm is only as good [and only as pure] as the humans which devised it.

They *always* blame the computer. Especially where badly designed algorithms are involved, ironically. #MachineLearningWillResolveThis
Bloody humans. A computer could have done the job far quicker, of course.

Logical. But still relies on the humans that create #TheAlgorithm to get things right. There's always a weak point.
