The program begins with an introduction from the president of WriterSkill, Laura Mendoza. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: Rewriting to build the world anew is a tall order. To build the world anew has a lot of demands. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Pobre looks at the question, “What does it mean to build the world anew?” in the context of the audience as writers. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Pobre expounds that there is always a desire to see something different and a desire to change something given the social constructs of this world. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Pobre references a quote by Ursula K. Le Guin saying, “We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable, but so did the divine right of kings.” | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: Language was a way to understand myself. A way to look at questions that I was both haunted and enchanted by. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

The speaker expounds that there is a lot more to ecology. There are elements of the natural, the social, and the mental. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: As writers, to build the world anew is all about intensely looking at and engaging with relations. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: Art and literature are scaffolds on which history and culture grow. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Pobre concludes her talk with a quote that says, "The form of nourishment that our literary form offers us... is deep and abiding." | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

The Q&A portion of the event has begun. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Q: How would you recommend to navigate the specific space of being a writer in the Philippines? POBRE: Think about community - where you're embedded, those relations that you have. | via @Bea_TheGDN (1/2) #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: Beyond the gates [of the Ateneo], that is where social networking is, so one has to think about how we relate to people. | via @Bea_TheGDN (2/2) #TALABIntegralEcology

Q: Are there any boundaries when it comes to writing? What are the things we have to be sensitive about when it comes to writing especially when it is personal? | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: The key to unlocking that is self-reflexivity. There is this self-awareness that can intervene when it is time to stop. The boundaries will come from [thinking about] what you want to construct from a piece/story. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Q: What inspired you to do that format (journal prompts)? POBRE: A friend of mine asked me to write 30 journaling prompts. I was reflecting on a lot of things. That process, almost by accident, produced these prompts. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

Q: How do you reconcile being a Filipino writer as someone who reads and writes in English? POBRE: It’s not your fault, but there is still a responsibility to not be monolingual. It is important to give and take. | via @Bea_TheGDN (1/2) #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: You’ll realize that at a certain point, there is a multilingualism that comes not just in language alone – things that influence you. Be sensitive and be open and it doesn’t have to be such a burden. | via @Bea_TheGDN (2/2) #TALABIntegralEcology

Q: How do we balance creativity and sensitivity to those who are in those ecological communities that we talk about when we write about them? | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology

POBRE: Hopefully, you are in relation with them and that you have a connection with who they are. You have to be in conversation with them and also be attentive to the class composition of those kinds of writing ventures. | via @Bea_TheGDN #TALABIntegralEcology
