"We took this failed project and re-did the requirements. Then the payroll director decided that she wanted to re-do the requirements. Then the vendor decided this wasn't good enough so they redid the requirements" ... from a client, 1 year later

How do I validate my planned resource hours on my project? With actuals. You validate your plan with actual hours spent on the work.

If you want to open the economy, wear a mask. If you want to keep yourself safe, wear a mask. If you want to keep others safe, wear a mask. If you want to make a political statement, wear a cap.

Is it weird that you get excited getting your hands dirty on a piece of code for a customer instead of delegating the work?

In the new world of multiple techniques to solve business problems in new and interesting ways, combining meaningful metrics to convey constancy can be challenging. That the metrics will morph constantly is a given.

So today's PM challenge is showing a first demo of a new PPM tool project status. PMs more concerned with showing excruciating project detail than conveying basic metrics that executives can actually understand. I should not be surprised.

Because there is no plan?

So today. "I need your help in fixing our processes, but I am so busy right now that I don't have time to devote to these necessary improvements"

So I had another day giving a client a come-home-to-jesus discussion about why agile techniques (missing) are more important that tools (lots) #agile #agilematurity

Demoing a basic project dashboard and received a question about using Power BI. Thinking to myself "Dude, I've been working with you for a month and you struggle updating 20 basic project fields and now you want to sexily display your lack of ability?"

Funny morning. I am working with a client migrating from one PPM solution to another (corporate standard). I mentioned some cool resource capacity features in the old tool that really made resource planning work well. I guess they missed using that training session.

Reviewing an agile adoption at a company. Lots of electronic tools, but a total lack of understanding of agile. The chickens prevail.

Clients continue to amaze me. "When projects are approved, we make sure resources are available" ... same breath ... "We find out we have resource constraints when staff fail to show up to project meetings" ... same breath ... "Our staff are overworked" Argggh!
