On 16 Apr 1635 Frans van Mieris was born. He painted 'The Oyster Meal' in 1661. A man is trying to seduce a woman by offering her oysters. The man (Van Mieris himself) is obviously successful, as the woman (Van Mieris’ wife) is provocatively showing him her bosom.
This wonderful 1652/53 depiction of washerwomen, also giving the text of their song is by the brilliant Gesina Ter Borch, 1633-1690 - I'll be tweeting more of her wonderful images over the next while (Rijksmuseum)

Drank en verboden seks – daar gaat dit schilderij over. Lot laat zich dronken voeren door zijn dochters, terwijl in de verte Sodom in lichterlaaie staat. Dat Lot wel erg sterk lijkt op Steen zelf, maakt de grap nog leuker. Jan Steen vertelt is te zien tot en met 13 mei.
