.@Cornell still refuses to hire even one M.D. gynecologist to serve its 13,000 female students. @cornellsun published my encounters with excruciating pain and sexism while seeking healthcare at Cornell Health for chronic vaginal pain. cornellsun.com/2023/09/23/gue…

Invisible illnesses often make it difficult for us to say we're disabled. No matter how we present or what we face every day, we need to remember it's okay to accept this aspect of our lives and ask for help.

Our latest pod episode tells the story of the first study that looked at how prevalent vulvodynia is in the general population. And it turned out, it’s really common! Art by relstein on IG, audiogram by @humansofhummus !

Might come as a surprise, but the correct answer is actually the Institute of Child Health and Human Development 🤔

❓Which of these institutions do you think supports vulvovaginal pain research?

Really wild after all of these years writing and reading about maternal health that it’s considered a health innovation to save Black mothers from dying of childbirth. Just save Black mothers. Just listen to Black mothers when they say something is wrong.

Normalizing masks. Safer childbirth for Black mothers. mRNA vaccines for cancers. Robot surgeons? In the last century, the average human life expectancy doubled. Here's @NYTMag's list of 43 innovations that could help us do it again — maybe. nyti.ms/3xHCLjs

I have a chronic disease: endometriosis. I've had to have surgeries, I've been on and off hormones to suppress my periods - it has caused me so much pain and infertility which I've been battling for years and YEARS.

Did you know? About 20 years ago, Dr. Bernard Harlow and Dr. Elizabeth Stewart did a study that showed around 16% people with vaginas have vulvodynia. Vulvovaginal pain is common in all communities, across all racial and ethnic backgrounds.
