Engineering & Design Developments of the Hammersmith Bridge
Hammersmith Bridge has been in and out of closures and highly monitored for several years, and in April 2019 the Grade II listed bridge was closed to all motor traffic due to structural faults found...
CV Tip #07 Include a brief description of what your employer/ past employer's do - not only does this prove your knowledge and understanding, but this will also help the recruiter especially if you've moved between sectors.
CV Tip #06 Recruiters use keyword searches to find CVs, so using as many keywords relating to your role and industry as you can will improve your visibility to the right people.
CV Tip #05 Always include your location, when you can be available, as well as where you are willing to work. This helps employers determine your suitability for specific projects, and roles that require commuting.
Job Search Tip #05 Recruiters' inboxes get busy, so following up with a phone call goes a long way.
CV Tip #04 Don’t underestimate the software and equipment you use at work. Employers invest a lot of money in equipment and if you’re already familiar with the kit they use, that could give you an edge.
Job Search Tip #04 If you have LinkedIn, search for the company contacts and ask them who you will need to speak to about interviewing with them.
CV Tip #03 Arrange your experiences in chronological order from most recent to oldest so your potential employer doesn’t have to scroll to see what you do today.
Job Search Tip #03 Send every relevant company an email explaining what you do, when you can start, where you will work and how much you will work for.
CV Tip #02 Include the name of your project, the value, and the name of the end client. All of this information is key for your next employer to decide whether you have the experience to add value to their projects and similar experience is a great indicator.
Job Search Tip #02 Approaching potential employers: Search for the companies that are working in your specialist sector. For example, “housing developer”, “piling contractor”, or “civil engineering company” and then use any email address' you can to get hold of the companies.
Job Search Tip #01 DO NOT rely on recruitment agencies: Both time and money can be extremely limited for construction companies right now and if you can cut out a ‘middle-man’ to help your new employer avoid a fee, you’ll already be favoured against other options.
CV Tip #01 Employers don’t just want to know your job title, but they also want to know what that means to specific projects. What projects have you been working on and specifically what does your job title mean to that project? Where do you fit in?
