Worth watching the whole clip, but the bit from 2:37 on is especially relevant to today's events. Israelis have long held strategic interests in northern Somalia, backed by a comprador class of Somali political elite that has been eager to sell out to Tel Aviv for recognition.

I can't help but wonder if this is some rigid realpolitik coming from Getachew. Maybe I am misreading him, but I don't think on a personal level he's truly forgotten, nor forgiven what the 🇪🇹 gov perpetrated in Tigray and naive enough to think they're an ideal position.
✍️Wrote a piece on the morbidly fascinating and oft forgotten 1998-2000 war between 🇪🇷 & 🇪🇹 If interested in understanding that war, the huge impact it had on the Horn of Africa and what is currently at stake with rapidly escalating military tensions over Assab, check it out!

You’re ignoring the reality: without Eritrean Muslims especially lowlanders — there’d be no foundation for Eritrea at all. They built the networks, secured arms, foreign support, and funding. A Kebbesa didn’t — and couldn’t — do that from the ground up. No lowlanders, no Eritrea.
