Today, PM Carney proudly announced money to restore the White Rock Pier. Except…that same pier was fully rebuilt in 2019 with insurance and provincial support. Already fixed, already paid for. Why are we funding it again?

CBC Radio this morning proclaims "it is a big day for Canada" then informs us that is because PM Carney is unveiling his latest "major projects". It may well be CBC's opinion that the Liberals politically selected list makes for a "big day" but that does not make it a fact.

And what's extra-weird is that he doesn't announce the projects after they've been approved by the "Major Projects Office" but before they've even been considered by it. "The law is in my mouth" as King Richard II unhappily put it.

Alberta and the oil patch remain blockaded. Even though a single oil pipeline would have more GDP than the rest of these combined. But don't forget the weirdness of this: an opaque magical process by which King Carney announces which companies will be allowed and which won't.
