Among the non-migrant homeless population, Black Chicagoans are disproportionately affected, comprising roughly 72% of the homeless demographic, even though they represent only about one-third of the city's total population.
As of January 2024, an estimated 18,836 people were experiencing homelessness in Chicago on a single night, marking a threefold increase from the previous year.
