At start of second year of growth this seedling is at 44 inches high. Wish all were that height, but average is between 2 and 3 feet which is still very good. Survivability exceeds 97%. Great start to a future plantation for our children and grandchildren.
What you like to see in email from your consultant: “completed my timber sale field work,” “we are left to decide how best to market this timber,” “best strategy is,” “estimated timber volumes and values attached,” and “we will talk soon to finalize.”
.Great tweet! Without markets to support our efforts, our efforts will dwindle, and the healthy forests and lives will do so as well. Our plans are to continue, but not everyone will be able to do so. Thanks Mr. Bozeman for reminding everyone.
Forests are one of the greatest resources at our disposal. In order to keep our forests healthy, we must have healthy markets for forest products. Healthy markets equal healthy forests which lead to healthy lives. #MSforestry
.Arkansas timber, Arkansas loggers, Arkansas sawmill, Arkansas company, Arkansas buildings, just what we like to hear!

Walmart key to timber firm's $90M, 130-job project in Conway | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
A Canadian timber manufacturer will invest $90 million and hire 130 employees as it creates its first U.S.-based production facility in Conway. The facility is projected to open by mid-2021.
Wow, 90%. That is a bunch! Proud to be one of those landowner families that grows trees sustainably for America's future needs. We have the sixth generation involved now and plan on keeping the forests as forests.
Approximately 11 million individual landowners provide more than 90% of the fiber needed to support the forest products industry. These landowners have widely adopted sustainable forest management practices #forestproud ow.ly/sBhV50xeQoq
.@arkforests Legislator of the Year, @ARSenMissyIrvin, is right on when she said “solving problems with limited resources” is what rural Arkansans and AR #TreeFarmers do every day! Congratulations to Senator Irvin & all other award winners at the annual meeting.
Where is third oldest #TreeFarm in US? Arkansas; the G. William Smith Tree Farm in Dallas County near Princeton. At annual meeting of @arkforests this week it was recognized as AR Tree Farm of the Year. Congrats to the family & all other award winners! @AmForestFndn
.@ForestandPaper thanks for reminder of the advantage of paper cups to consumers. As #TreeFarmer we all need to remember to use paper & not other types of cups at tours, meetings, displays, in office, etc. Use what you grow! If don’t how can we expect others to do so?
Paper cups offer consumers a convenient, clean and hygienic product made with sustainable manufacturing practices from a renewable resource which can be recycled. ow.ly/1soW50wwCs7
Independence County, Ark shame on you for hurting your local loggers by forcing them to obtain a road permit. Don’t you realize benefits loggers & forest landowners provide to county. If not, need to ask a professional forester for advice. Do a better job of building roads.
Is a tree farmer truly a farmer? Will Rogers said “the farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn’t still be a farmer.” We must be an optimist to plant & wait 25-30 yrs to final harvest while concerned abt insects, invasives, regulations, fire, weather, & esp. markets!
DYK that 81% of log truck accidents are caused by the other vehicle according to Steve Matlock from Murphy Brothers Trucking, Arcadia, LA at LFA annual meeting last week. All drivers, cars & trucks, need to pay attention & focus on their driving.
NLEP attended the LA Forestry Association Annual Meeting today. Speakers discussed the LA timber supply and the complexity of insuring the timber industry. Steve Matlock from Murphy Brothers Trucking (Arcadia) discussed their pivotal role in supporting mills in our region.
DYK we, & other forest landowners, plant trees which creates clean water & clean air in streams / skies, & creates wildlife habitat & recreational opportunities before trees are harvested & it begins all over again. Meanwhile, for years we pay taxes on the land & products sold.
Stan Parton,@forest2market, published a blog post with a link to an article in WSJ. Sure would be nice if the link opened the entire article and not just the first paragraph so we could understand his comments. Not everyone has a subscription to WSJ.
Louisiana Forestry Assoc. Annual Meeting next week in Lake Charles. Theme is “Road Blocks to Sustainable Forestry” w/ excellent speakers. Expect great meeting w/ lots of information & networking & maybe a little fun, food, & giveaways! Might even bid in PLT silent auction.
Thanks to @NAFO_Forests for a great report & for sharing it. Right on with comment about economic prosperity & environmental stewardship. What most active forest landowners strive to achieve each & every day & pass it on as a family legacy.
NEW REPORT: Private forests support 2.5 MILLION Jobs! This new data shows us what we have long known, that #modernforestry is where economic prosperity and environmental stewardship align! #forestproud bit.ly/USForestEconMap
Had timber theft? Notify local law ASAP; locals don't react, report to state police / forestry comm. Prosecutor will not act, contact state attorney general. Don’t be a victim twice. Bring to public’s attention that it’s just like theft of car or cash & should be treated same.
This is such a profound statement! Why cannot society and the local / state / national politicians realize it and learn to accept this fact before it is too late? #TreeFarm @AmForestFndn
Without a market for trees, privately-managed forestlands would likely be sold or used for other economic purposes. #ForestProud
If use prescribed herbicide treatment for a silviculture operation, be sure to request a path of operation, such as shown, so know where herbicide was applied. Went around structures & SMZ. Ask for herbicides used & rate of application. Also notify neighbors before apply.
Completed herbaceous weed control application today with help of @tmaviation & RRSI of @azelisgroup. Appreciate Ron Wolf, owner of @tmaviation, landing & visiting a few minutes with us. Had clear skies & low wind for application after lots of rain last few weeks.
