This #NationalTreeWeek 'choose improved '. Anyone planting trees, where timber is the primary objective, ought to be using the highest standard of planting stock available. For more info: futuretrees.org/our-impact/ @treesplease1 @MaelorForest @Elsomsseeds
Pleased to be at Future Trees Trust supporters day, this year held at Maelor Forest Nurseries #FTT2023
Great work people 👏👏👏 I wonder how long this plot will be around for and how many future foresters it will supply data for! 🤯
A job well done! 2000 trees planted for the #Sycamore research trial in Oxfordshire. A special thank you to Tubex for their donation of tree shelters to help aid their establishment and to @VasternTimberUK - supporters of our Sycamore improvement work. futuretrees.org/sycamore/

Future Trees Trust is delighted to welcome John McLaughlin as our new Chief Executive. John is just as passionate as we all are about FTT and we are excited to have him onboard. Read the full update: futuretrees.org/future-trees-t… #treecharity #ukforestry
Birch seed sowing is well underway at Cheviot Trees nursery. The seed was collected from silver birch plus trees and these will be planted out on our large progeny trials to assess their performance. #broadleaf #tree #futuretrees #forestry #treeimprovement
Now the Sycamore seeds have been carefully sown... a good drink to help kick off germination. #Sycamore - at Cheviot Trees Nursery @TreeFarmMac @VasternTimberUK

The current gains in yield and quality in trees over the last century have been modest. If we are to sustain forestry growth and realise the full potential benefits for society and the wider forestry sector, we need to invest more into tree breeding research. #NTIS
Do you know anyone who would like to lead FTT - An organisation dedicated to providing genetically diverse breeding populations of tree species to promote resilient, healthy and productive woodlands in the UK. Closing date - 6th March 2022. To apply > buff.ly/3sEUWEO
Exciting news! FTTs first demonstration plot was planted to show differences in source identified, selected & qualified planting material. Forestart grew the trees, @ForestryEngland provided fencing and the site, and @TUBEX1 supplied the vole guards! buff.ly/321qWZV
Given no one complains about the annual 'clear cut' on the left why do some people complain about the once every 40 years clear cut on the right? Both are sustainable as both are replanted. Yes we need food but we also need wood.
"As demand for timber frames grows - in Scotland and across the UK - we need to keep planting forests to ensure we have enough timber in future." buff.ly/3Fk3OUI
This is a great opportunity. Please share!
