Hackberry Island Chlorosis is showing up again. This was once thought to be caused by a virus but it is a physiological condition where huge amounts of a proteinase inhibitor accumulates in affected leaves from a response to some unknown cause. Next year leaves can be normal.

Some cool work I did during my master's degree (>8 years ago!) is finally finished and out! We found that neonicotinoids like imidacloprid could move from the plant into the hyphae and conidia or powdery mildews, killing mycophagous beetles mdpi.com/2075-4450/11/8… @Insects_MDPI

Biscogniauxia canker (formerly hypoxylon canker) is common on stressed hardwoods. These are not aggressive #fungi, and indicate that the tree is very stressed or dying. Not much you can do at this point except think about what to plant next. More info at southernforesthealth.net/other/declines…

#LaurelWilt detected in southwest KY. This disease can rapidly kill sassafras trees. Look for sudden death with red-brown leaves still attached and dark streaks under the bark. If you notice something suspicious, let your county agent know extension.ca.uky.edu/county #foresthealth
