This is a nice review of a promising new macroeconomics textbook which purports to offer a “problem-setting approach rather than a problem-solving one, as is the case with most economics textbooks”. Great turn of phrase! developingeconomics.org/2021/08/22/rev…

"The future of humanistic studies was endangered as never before. Even universities were tending to relegate the humanities to a subordinate place, & to lay stress on technology." When was this statement made? Depressingly, it's in a 1942 report from local @Classical_Assoc
Reposting this after someone identified the closing of dozens of programmes at a post-92 (w/subsequent job losses for 10s if not 100s of staff, many of whom from WC backgrounds), as a mode of dismantling an inherently colonialist UKHE. Just breathtakingly tone/deaf+inaccurate.
🧵on the value of the post-92s and on research “excellence”. I’ve noticed a tendency among even those appalled by the assault on post-92 humanities departments to focus on our teaching—which is great, yes, but only part of what we contribute to academia. 1/
