A few weeks ago I left a cicada shell on my colleague’s desk to scare her. Today I came in to find this on my desk - our full lab reconstructed in terrifying detail. There’s an Irish one wearing glasses READING MY REVIEW PAPER. I’m simultaneously traumatised and dying of laughter

Here are some rules I emphasize when teaching central line placement, usually for IJ triple lumens and HD lines. Not a comprehensive guide, just some things I've seen trainees miss (including myself). I'm a fellow so I am by no means an expert and I'd love your input! [THREAD]

It's time for America to adopt the metric system

Just saw a group of OBGYNs power walking to the OR, and I thought wow, what they do is amazing. And then I saw a mother walking with her infant and I thought wow, what a cute baby. And then I saw 6 more pregnant women, and I thought wow, this is the 3rd floor not the 2nd floor.

Imagine being packed like sardines in a public wave pool & the wave guy gets drunk and decides to send a tsunami your way

Hey, #NurseTwitter - any advice on how to precept a nursing student?! I’m 4 years into ICU nursing & figured since I’m in the float-pool I’d never have the opportunity to precept, but they’ve asked me to have 12 shifts w/ a student this fall! I’m SO EXCITED!!

Quote tweet with something that is only acceptable to do to someone in a hospital. I’ll start: When someone doesn’t respond to you, pinch them really hard or press in on their nail beds to elicit a response.

Sir, you’re strict NPO, you can’t have anything to drink. Patient:

ICU nursing is apologizing to the hysterical wife of your patient who is sitting in the chair for not being able to order him a non-diet coke because you were busy next door putting your other patient in a body bag.

1/ How do you feel when someone asks you to write them a letter of recommendation for residency or fellowship? Do you feel: Honored? Indifferent? Conflicted? Obligated? Happy? Now that I have a good approach, I actually love writing letters. Crazy, I know!

Hi #NurseTwitter — as a new hire, were you paid for the online portion of orientation? Were you given a specific time (come in for 4 hours and knock it out), able to do it at home (fill out time sheets), or expected to do it on “downtime” at work or not be paid at all?

I just listened to a nurse explain 3% to her patient’s somewhat simple family - “It’s basically salt water. You know how when you put salt on a slug it dries it out? Well her brain is swollen & this is going to help dry it out a little bit.” Yas! Meet people where they’re at! 👏🏽
