The Universal Income Project is devoted to the expansion of economic security and human dignity through the implementation of a basic income in the US.

Universal Income Project co-director @dr_pugh joined @trendspodcast this week to discuss the current status of UBI in the United States and how we might eventually enact federal basic income policy. Listen here: americatrendspodcast.com/2023/05/28/ep-…

What would it take to strengthen CA's #safetynet? The #BAEnetwork has a policy roadmap that is grounded in data and inspired by the stories and ideas of people who have personally faced barriers to benefits access. benefitsaccess.us

NEW from @playbookdc@MichaelBennet is preparing for a showdown to bring back the expanded #ChildTaxCredit during the lame duck. Congress can’t pass any more tax breaks for wealthy corporations unless they are paired with a refundable, monthly CTC! politico.com/newsletters/pl…

It's no secret that the US social safety net as it exists today is not doing enough to support struggling families. To fix it, we need to adopt a new approach to designing social programs: including the people who use those programs in the process. governing.com/now/to-get-saf…

Absolutely right, @SenWhitehouse: No tax breaks for corporations without first expanding the Child Tax Credit for families.

I agree, no corporate tax breaks without renewing the boost to the Child Tax Credit. Corporations are doing just fine, let’s put families first.

We’ve selected over 1700 Long Beach residents to receive $1000 a month over 3 months to help pay the rent. Their second check is on its way. We are also working to build our universal basic income pilot program. Guaranteed income is the future, time for Congress to get on board.

Second bill should be or include a permanent extension of the enhanced child tax credit. And you should be making this promise too because it drives just as much support as abortion rights and even more for certain key voter demographics. inthesetimes.com/article/midter…

It's been been well established that the expanded Child Tax Credit had a huge impact on reducing child poverty in the US. Now, there's new data showing that Democrats who run on renewing the program will get a big boost at the polls this November. inthesetimes.com/article/midter…

This can't be said enough. The expanded #ChildTaxCredit is the most successful anti-poverty program in a generation. Congress *must* extend it.

.@POTUS at today's #WHConfHungerHealth: “The expanded child tax credit is one of the most effective programs we've ever seen. And that's why my national strategy calls on Congress to expand the child credit permanently.” Congress must get this done. #ChildTaxCredit

Reports of the expanded #ChildTaxCredit's demise have been greatly exaggerated. According to Sen. @MichaelBennet: “It is a priority for the White House & it's absolutely a priority for me... I think we can find a way at the end of the year." axios.com/2022/09/09/chi…

.@SenSherrodBrown gets it spot on: "I’ll put it this way: no more tax breaks for big corporations and the wealthy unless the child tax credit’s with it. I'll lay down in front of a bulldozer on this." youtube.com/watch?v=jCLKfh…

The Child Tax Credit cut childhood poverty by 30% and reduced families’ reliance on payday loans — allowing parents to better manage emergency expenses, pay for tutors for their children, and spend more time with them. Economic security programs work.
