Keep your home cozy and safe with proper fireplace use. Use a sturdy screen to catch sparks, burn only dry seasoned wood, keep decorations and furniture at least 3 feet away, and make sure your chimney is cleaned and inspected yearly. Never leave a fire unattended.
Carbon monoxide is an invisible killer. If you were affected by the recent winter storm, stay safe! • Test CO alarms. • Make sure vents for the dryer, furnace, stove, and fireplace are clear of snow. • Use portable generators outdoors, away from doors, windows, and vents.
If your home is still without power after recent winter storms, pay attention to water advisories issued by local officials in your area. Boil drinking water on a gas stove or use bottled water from your emergency supply kit, if needed.
