Be honest: do these look like people who NEED $23 *thousand* in food assistance? I figure that's the better part of a decade's worth of feeding *me.* If I was on welfare I'd hope I'd have the dignity to stretch 23 large into *multiple* decades worth of food.

Woman recorded a phone call with the New Jersey EBT automated line and revealed that she has $23,235 currently in her benefit account.

New Glenn actually hovered and slid sideways. SpaceX rockets tend to aim straight for the landing zone and slam on the brakes. Both good strategies, SpaceX uses less fuel, has lower margin.

Good overview of the landing. We nominally target a few hundred feet away from Jacklyn to avoid a severe impact if engines fail to start or start slowly. We’ll incrementally reduce that conservatism over time. We are all excited and grateful for yesterday. Amazing performance by…

Artwork (via the NASA HQ History Office) of the Lockheed STAR Clipper. This was an early stage-and-a-half concept with a reusable orbiter & expendable propellant tanks. Vastly more info on this is available in APR issue V3N2: aerospaceprojectsreview.com/blog/?p=144

Aww, c'mon man. That's just showing off.

Immense planning and technical precision was required for this absolutely preposterous (but real) view: I captured my friend @BlackGryph0n transiting the sun during a skydive. This might be the first photo of it's kind in existence. See a video of this moment in the reply 👇

Hot diggitty: Blue origin's New Glenn launched successfully; the 1st stage landed successfully; the upper stage just sent the two payloads off into deep space successfully. Looks like a complete success... except for the videography. They GOTTA work on that.

Failed successfully.

The way the RPG 7 bounces off the ground and still hits its target is worthy of a medal.

The Lakota conquered the Black Hills from the Cheyenne in the 1770s. The US Army took the Black Hills in the 1870s. It's been ours longer than it was theirs. The monument itself has existed for almost as long as the Lakota had the place and didn't do anything with it.

No, SpaceX can't do squadoo to help. Partially because they'd need a docking adapter between the Dragon capsule and the Chinese station... but mostly because there's no chance in hell the ChiComs would ever agree to such a thing.

It do be like that. I'm not a RPGamer, but if I was I'm pretty sure that among all the myriad options - ork, elf, dwarf, halfling, druid, wizard, whatever - I'd go with "just a guy." Because doing great deeds as "just a guy" is infinitely preferable to doing so with superpowers.

Yeah, but no. McD's is supposed to be about adequate food, fast and most importantly CHEAP. Last time I stopped there I got a burger, a drink and a shake little bigger than my thumb and it cost $16. Sorry, no. Not again. It's not that I'm poor, it's that they're expensive.

Wendy’s just announced it’s closing hundreds of U.S. stores. McDonald’s CEO says the same thing: traffic is collapsing. That’s not about burgers, it’s about the economy. When people can’t even afford a $5 meal, it means the consumer engine that drives everything is…

An early 1980’s Bell Helicopter artists concept of what would become the V-22 Osprey. The design is largely right, though the canopy is noticeably different. Note the refueling probe above the nose and the Gatling gun projecting from the tip of the nose.

Finally, a solution to global warming. Bonus: I suspect people from warmer climes might skedaddle back on home from suddenly extra-frigid Canada, Britain, Sweden, etc.

This looks like a hoot.

You’ve been chosen to save the future. Watch the all-new teaser for GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN DON’T DIE, from director Gore Verbinski. Starring Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudhry and Juno Temple. Only in theaters February 13.

Yikes. Fanhome has released a kit of the 1989 Batmobile in impressive 1/8 scale, looks great. It comes in 110 "assembly stages," 5/month (22 months), at $2 for the 1st, $15 (+$2 ea tariff)/set, with 4 of them free. So... $2 + 105*($15+$2) = $1787. Ummm. fanhome.com/us/movie-serie…

To be fair, this looks like the humanoid robots of maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Being 5 years behind Tesla is not that bad. Imagine if Boeing, LockMart, Roscosmos or ESA were 5 years behind Falcon 9: they'd be flying regularly and profitably today.

Mocking a humanoid robot for falling down is like mocking yourself when you were just learning to walk. This is AIDOL, Russia's first humanoid robot. During its launch event, it suddenly fell over. The team stated that it might have been due to poor lighting or a voltage issue,…
