“The humanities are useless” is propaganda, designed to discourage young people from pursuing careers in literature and the arts because those careers are vital to a flourishing society. We’re reaping the results with a public that is compliant and ill-informed, as was intended.

Woah.

Fantastic from Brighton, this. A massively important message delivered very well.

"Social media often shows an incomplete picture of faith. Living the Gospel doesn’t require cameras or podcasts; it requires fidelity when no one is watching. And it is precisely here, in the unseen and unshared moments, that many beloved influencers have stumbled."

The rise of the Catholic influencer has helped shaped faith around the world, and has opened new doors for evangelization once thought impossible. However, @joepeach6 writes that there's also a dark side to the Church's intersection with social media. blackcatholicmessenger.org/catholic-influ…

This is such a revealing moment: @DouthatNYT, moved by a poem about the beauty and gift of procreation, asks the woman who wants to take it all away if she thinks something will be lost, and she responds, “what do you mean?”

“Eustace had read only the wrong sort of books. They had a lot to say about exports and imports and governments and drains, but they were weak on dragons.” - C. S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I don’t think anyone should get into literary fiction. Spend your time understanding our actual world. Read the newspaper, narrative non-fiction, and empirical studies. Literary fiction is for the bourgeois classes who don’t care to think about societal inequalities.

Together, we will rebuild the credibility of a wounded Church, sent to a wounded humanity, within a wounded creation. We are not yet perfect, but we must be credible: our lives must be transparent, visible, and credible!

Pray for the pope.

breathlessly waiting this morning for the New Zealand Herald to get some dude to write 600 words on what the new pope means for the Catholic Church in New Zealand

"New pope moves into traditional papal dwelling, a return to the norm after Francis eschewed this for modest apartments. This signals Leo's desire to steer a conservative path however the chasuble he wore was made in Milan diocese noted for its liberalism- SHUT UP I CANT STAND IT
