They all have names. They all had loved ones. They all had futures. Until they died in our streets. This is why we need #VisionZero

In 2015, Lise Leblanc was struck and killed by a driver on Ogilvie Road at City Park Drive. This is why Ottawa needs #VisionZero.

Many Ottawa residents cycle as their preferred mode of transportation. These events help to raise awareness to that fact. A balanced approach to transportation provides adequate designated space for all modes.

Amazing turnout for todays critical mass ride! @ParkwaysPeople #Ottawa #ottbike

Our question is: When will Ottawa become Ottawa? Think about it :) @BikeOttawa #ottwalk #ottbike @HealthTransport @VisionZeroCA @VisionZeroOtt

Reminder: Amsterdam wasn’t Amsterdam until it became Amsterdam. The key question is HOW. Want safe, bikeable streets? Among other things, get rid of free parking like #Amsterdam did. Via @StreetsblogNYC @StreetsblogUSA nyc.streetsblog.org/2019/08/06/op-…

There is certainly a need for more of this activism in Ottawa. #ottwalk #ottbike #VisionZero @BikeOttawa @VisionZeroCA @VisionZeroOtt @HealthTransport

“In the 1960s, Dutch cities were increasingly in thrall to motorists, with the car seen as the transport of the future. It took the intolerable toll of child traffic deaths – & fierce activism – to turn #Amsterdam into the cycling nirvana of today.” theguardian.com/cities/2015/ma…

#ottbike Andrew's comment to @cbcotttraffic is spot on. Not only QED MUP, but even more Colonel By MUP suffers from car headlights in adjacent roadway blinding a cyclist, all the way from Corkstown Bridge to Bronson. A hedge/barriers would be perfect. cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…

Thoughts and prayers to the remaining 80% of victims who will continue to die, year in, year out.

I’m proud to announce with @StephenBlais historic investments of $31.5 million in 2020 and a robust plan to bring down by 20% the number of fatal and major injury collisions by 2024. Nous devons continuer notre travail pour rendre nos rues plus sécuritaires pour tous les usagers!

A new twist, a common story. Tonight I used the bike minilane on Cooper to cross O'Connor & head south on its bike lanes. A RAV4 driver, however, ignored the "no thru" except bikes signs on Cooper, chopping me off. The new bit: he claimed that cyclists must walk across O'Connor!

Intelligent commentary on CBC today by @JLeiper re: Ottawa's road safety strategy. What's striking? The fact that @ottawacity knows it can save lives/prevent injuries with more $, but so far isn't willing. @BikeOttawa @Canada_Bikes @velooutaouais @OttTransitRider @VisionZeroCA

At Oct. meeting w/ @SROttawa draft goal was to reduce by 0%. Committing to 20% reduction by 2024=less bad. Still, nowhere near good. Many politicians lack will needed for big investments, improvements. We have 2 choices: i) get rid of them; ii) organize more effectively. Both?

This kind of kind of incrementalism is inherently bad. The target should be zero.* * Death & serious injury, that is. Not 0% improvement. 🙄 #ottawa #zerovision

Pro tips: The acceptable number of deaths and injuries is zero. So set that as your target, not 80%. Release the plan in advance of the press conference next time, so ppl can ask meanngful questions. Call it a safe mobility plan. City streets are not roads ... or shouldn't be.
