"Currently, there is no pathway that is connected to #DFV. Someone on a student visa, for example, cannot access a different visa because they're experiencing DFV. We detail in the Blueprint that we need a bigger safety net of an automatic short-term visa for all". @MSegrave
The #Blueprint has a lot of recommendations, especially on the need to push for more #SocialSecurity support - e.i. #TempVisa holders experiencing #DFV need an income support stream that will allow them to sort out basic & immediate financial needs. @JulianaNkrumah17
We know there're processes, but the bar is so high for #TempVisa holders that they can’t get through & access them. We need to address this. Any woman that's experiencing #DFV must have access to these supports to recover & this is what the #Blueprint is asking for @michal_morris
#TempVisa holders who experience violence are often caught in 2 awful options: remain in a life-threatening situation with a perp or end up in poverty/ homelessness as access to social security, free public health & housing support are linked to their visa status. @SophiedeRohan
Recognise that all #TempVisa holders need to have the ability to access a visa to stay in AUS (& not only those in a provisional pathway) for up to 3 yrs to pursue legal & family law cases & sort out their life rather than push them out to their origin of their country @MSegrave
Some #MentalHealth aspects of being on a #TempVisa: victim-survivors don’t know if they can stay in AUS; if they've rights here, they've no knowledge of where to access proper health. They're in a state of acute fear, panic attacks, a sense of abandonment, PTSD... @ManjulaOConnor
40% of women on #TempVisas have experienced #DVF in Australia, yet they are often invisibilised in reports and DFV data sets. - Nuria Alarcon @aus_harmony #BlueprintForReform #NAG #NationalAdvocacyGroup
