Institutional misogyny within Muslim communities remains an issue for British Muslim women. We deserve better, and we deserve it now. But is appealing to Muslim institutions going to advance our cause? Why we are skeptical and what we want instead ➡️ wmaproject.co.uk/2020/08/overco…

New book review! Our Research Advisor @j_p_eggert read 'The Daily Lives of #Muslims: #Islam and Public Confrontation in Contemporary #Europe' by Nilüfer Göle. Here is what she thought: wmaproject.co.uk/2021/08/book-r…

A really interesting article. I think the “create own spaces” over “fixing what exists” was the thing that took me a while to understand. Through conversations with some great people, it makes a lot of sense.

Reform or restart? People were discussing the best way to deal with misogynist faith communities a few weeks ago. Read our take on this issue in this article from last year: wmaproject.co.uk/2020/08/overco… @haleemaakhtar_ @nnnnnnxo @SadiqDorasat @sinai_hesa

WMAP is entirely run by volunteers, so if you don't hear from us for a while on social media, it's because we're busy juggling work, family life & other commitments. We're still here though (probably prepping stuff in the background), and always happy to hear from you!

It was a conversation with Sulekha a few years ago that planted the seed 🥲

We're so glad to see that this position is finally getting traction. It's something we have been arguing for for a long time. Time to create our own spaces!

I want to see Muslim women creating organisations which prioritise the faith of women because we genuinely have been failed by mosques, ‘leaders’ and organisations who have utterly disregarded our right to access our faith in the way God intended

That's why we say: stop giving them your money. Why support people who ignore you, look down and belittle you, and certainly don't regard you as full believers?!

Historically, Muslim women give the most in donations to Muslim charities and Mosques. Mosques in the UK were originally set up through the funds gained from the sale of women’s gold. It must be disheartening, to say the least, to see how they are repaid.

We've said it before and we'll say it again: MT is not the real world, don't let it distract you.

As visibly Muslim women, we have our fair share of stories about Islamophobia and racism in the health sector. An important issue that needs more attention.

There are countless stories of Black, PoC and Muslim patients going through experiences like this. Being reduced to racist and islamophobic stereotypes. And being ignored, neglected, or profiled.

Although we are undoubtedly 🇬🇧, many of us have struggled to identify w/ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 identity. #EURO2020 was a bit different. We've never seen so many British Muslims proudly wear the three lions. We're from here, and nothing is going to change that, not even the worst outpour of racism.

One for the Londoners!

Please note that Eid on the roof (Dalston, London) is filling up. If you’re attending please book your place as we have limited capacity: eventbrite.co.uk/e/eid-on-the-g…

It's been a while but seriously, judging because someone's name isn't 'muslim enough'. Interesting how this 'rationale' only applies to certain cultures and ethnicities

What if Islam were actually much more straightforward than some have us believe... #QuranPonderingsWithMohammedNizami

My dude Zayd dropped by for a coffee and pondering on the Quran this Ramadan, he said: The way you’ve put it, it’s practically impossible to be a sinner unless there’s something really wrong with you.

This is the essence of what Islam is to us. We are believers, it's a faith - not a culture, ethnic identity or political affiliation.

Mashaallah, congrats, sis. We love to see it!

Yesterday I was elected as Churchill wards new councillor. I am so honoured that residents have put their trust in me to represent them. It’s not my win but OUR win - I cannot wait to start working with residents and for residents. Having grown up in Churchill ward

Eid salah? Not any prayer, at any time. They even turned sisters away who told them they would otherwise miss their prayer...

Is your local mosque open for women to pray Eid salah? Let us know 👇

True. But we still need to do the work of interpreting and contextualising it.

The Quran has the solutions to all of our problems as individuals, families and communities. “This is the revelation of the book of The Mighty and Wise God. Truly, we sent the book down to you with the truth. So devote your life to God in sincerity.” (Zumar 1-2)

Kudos to all the sisters who persist in academia (be it as students, academics or non-academic members of staff) regardless!

The last ten days of #Ramadan are so close now. Crazy how fast the month has gone by again... Let's make the most of the remaining days!
