Imperial REACT Study 29/10: 96,000 new cases daily in England only: R= 1.56; doubling time 9 days. "We are at a critical stage. something has to change". Conflicts with Kings/ONS data. I fear HMG has eyes only for the Imperial pessimism. This should be argued out PUBLICLY.
Kings Zoe Study on Covid 30/10: 43,569 new cases daily in UK; R= 1.1; "cases have not spiralled out of control as has been recently reported from other surveys...deaths are still average for the season"; doubling time 28 days. Data closely matches ONS stats.
Two very different reports on COVID out today and yesterday - Kings and Imperial - the first reassuring and the second apocalyptic. Can't both be right. Critical decisions on economy and NHS to be made. Boris/HMG need to choose between these polar opposites. Headlines to follow.
