Katherine petitioned the sessions court in 1690 asking to be discharged from service to Rich, who by then had returned to Barbados. She won a victory of sorts ‘... Katherine shall be at liberty to serve any person until such time as the said Rich shall return from Barbadoes’ 3/4
Brought to England in 1684 by her ‘master’ Robert Rich, a planter from Barbados. Following her baptism, Katherine was increasingly maltreated by Rich and eventually turned out of his house. He forbid her from seeking employment; condemning her to destitution. #Slavery 2/4
Katherine Auker was baptised at St Katherine by the Tower on 29 February 1688. Yet what we know about Katherine relies less on the parish entry, but instead a court case she took to the Middlesex Sessions in 1690. #BlackHistoryMonth #London 1/4

The Kent locations in new crime drama
Beady-eyed viewers of a crime drama set in a seaside town will have spotted a host of Kent locations after it premiered today.
The Rev Joshua Brooks chaplain of the old collegiate church in Manchester until his death in 1821 didn’t keep his records on great order it seems. No regard for future #genealogy - cited in The Victorian Parson by Barry Turner
Squally clouds to the west. Pink skies ahead. A candle lit in memory of #SarahEverard who will never have the opportunity to see either again. All she did is walk #ReclaimTheStreets
In quiet socially distanced memory of #SarahEverard #ReclaimTheNight Marched for this 40 years ago. Shouldn’t have to be doing it still. One gray haired woman still angry
Thanks to #TheTalkofTankerton & the Christmas Lamplighters for our pretty #TankertonChristmasLights
Having a blast watching #FrontRoomFest Many thanks to @folkonfoot and thanks for decent 4G by the coast
Hope you’re all staying OK. Times are tough but we’ll find our way through together. I’m planning fun things to do on Twitter over the next few weeks, including a World Cup of cat names. Let me know if you have any suggestions. (Photo @tom_a_jeffs)
