Our Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant has had a few "Jacks" the dog, in the show. First "Jeremy" owned by Gary Sykora, and then Trixie & Bandit owned by Fred and Darla Bloch. In reality, Jack never made it to Walnut Grove. Pa traded Jack with Pet and Patty in Kansas

Page 10 & 11- 1981 pageant program the mules & horse were highlighted. Birdie, the horse, was 29 years old in 1981, she was in the pageant for 7 years then her offspring Babe performed in 1987. She was owned by Alvin Kleven. The mules, Maggie and Jiggs, were owned by Art Metty.
The 1980 program of Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant. "The one outstanding feature that made the production really work, was the cooperation and support in time, money and labor, from the people of the little town on the prairie." The quote was true then and is true now.
1979 first outdoor production of "Fragments of a dream". Site is at the Al Farber farm on the Banks of Plum Creek. Bill Richards designed the sets and with the help of many volunteers the Walnut Grove Outdoor Theater was born. Full story on our Facebook page.
James Merchant wrote Fragments of a Dream in 1977", the play was through the eyes of Caroline with a focus on the people around Laura. The pageant was held in July 1978 in the Walnut Grove school auditorium. The Walnut Grove community brought forth a cast of actors and actresses

In Walnut Grove in the days of the Ingalls they were also looking forward to Christmas, only much humbler. They made decorations from popcorn, berries or foliage and handmade sewn or knitted items. They used their own stockings and made sure all the holes were darned for Santa.

One more cast call out from the MASC production of It's a Wonderful Life. At the Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant we are family, even in the off season. Theater is a great way to build new friends that last through the years. Thanks, Daniel, for sharing the photo.
Over the years we have been adding more live music. Daryl plays the dulcimer, Messina plays a ukulele banjo and Taryn plays a violin while others joined them in song. and the men sing "Buffalo Gals". Our plan is to add more live entertainment between scenes or during scenes.
The assistant director is one who helps the director. In our 48 years we have had22 people (listed in the programs) who have assisted. Those with multiple years are; Nancy Alcorn 1981-1984, Laura Anderson 1989-1992, Deb Saxton 1995, 1996, 1998 and Erin Richards from 2006-2014.
Update: This weekend December 12th & 13th several of our actors are performing in It's A Wonderful Life with the Marshall Area Stage Company. From our Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder production Daniel, Julie and Jennie will be perform in the production.

In "Laura Ingalls Wilder Pioneer Girl the Annotated Autobiography Pamela Smith Hill, editor" On page 131 Laura told of having a snowball fight with the boys at school. This week in Walnut Grove we have gotten quite a bit of snow. It is looking like we will have a white Christmas
In Walnut Grove last night temps dipped below zero. In pioneer times people would stoke their fire and huddle closer together with layers of clothes and blankets. To keep their fires burning was a chore using what wood they harvested, coal, twisted hay or grass and dried dung.
The production of "Chasing the Dream", Act One Scene 6 "Patience Dear William". Charles is wondering about the wheat crop and his tree claim. Bill Richard's notes in the script: "1875 06 02 Tree Claim about 3 miles NE of Walnut Grove and relinquished it on 1878 03 01."
Last night in the Walnut Grove City Park the Christmas lights were turned on for the first time this season. It was a very cold evening for the crowd. Hot chocolate was provided by Half Pint Coffee and cookies from Sweet Treats and More .
