We've confirmed 7 additional tornadoes from the July 15 derecho: - Sugar Grove to Aurora EF-1 - Crestwood to Blue Island EF-0 - Flossmoor to Thornton EF-1 - West Town (Chicago) EF-0 - Shelby to Wheatfield Township EF-0 - Peotone EF-0 (track TBD) - Manteno EF-0 (track TBD) (1/2)
In addition, widespread damage swaths (70+ mph or greater) were observed along the Hwy 20 corridor east of Waterloo towards Freeport, and from the Quad Cities towards Kewanee and then near the Lacon/Minonk area. Numerous trees and power lines fell within these areas.
🚨There were 7 confirmed tornadoes that occurred in eastern IA and northwest IL during the 7/15 Derecho and are attached below. Additional analysis of data and conversations with Emergency Management will be done in the coming days to assess other areas.

A second Kewanee, IL tornado from Monday evening was determined based on damage consistent with a tornado & the structure of the storms as they swept through town. Between the two tornadoes & widespread winds, well over a hundred trees were downed/severely damaged in town. #ILwx
We're up to a total of 7 tornadoes now being confirmed from Monday evening July 15th. The latest to be confirmed was near Dakota, Illinois (NE of Freeport, IL) with the help of video from our trained spotters! Fortunately this one didn't produce any known damage! #ilwx
The Mississippi River has crested and is now receding at most sites. However, recent heavy rain and tributary input has slowed or stalled the fall at several sites, and there will be secondary rises/crests at Keokuk and Gregory Landing.
