This is historical bullshit. The Industrial Age involved rampant exploitation--the work week was at least 70-100 hours, this included working women and child labor. It became standardized at 40 hours in the 20th century as a check on abuses, not because it was "made for men."

9-5 was not designed for *anyone* actually. It’s nothing to do with our hormonal cycles vs theirs and everything to do with ~capitalism~. Besides, prior to the 40 hr work week people worked 10-16 hours per day on avg. The 40 hour work week was the result of decades of activism.

On a recent DS9 rewatch I realized that we never actually see Earth's orbital defenses, so I made this: the Defense Sphere. They have a crew of 10, impulse engines but no warp drive, and two phaser strips. They are designed to be simple to build and deployed in large numbers.
