We are closer to a lasting peace in the Middle East than at any point in my lifetime. Still work to do, but that we are this close is a staggering achievement. Make no mistake, this point has been reached *despite* Starmer’s foolish actions, as Secretary Rubio makes clear:
Lasting peace in the Middle East is far but not impossible. Ending the tragedy in Palestinian territories is the first step but the road ahead is long.
Starmer has done everything that he can to support these dreadful people. Labour must go.
Keir Starmer needs to recognise the irrelevant position on the Worlds Stage the UK has become. Let’s hope the Special Relationship with the USA can be rebuilt, but first that needs Starmer gone.
Rubio is lying. Starmer and Macron recognising Palestine helped force Israel into accepting a deal, which is pretty much the deal that Hamas agreed to months ago before Israel reneged.
Clearly recognising Palestine did not do any harm to the peace deal. It was ALAWAYS down to US. It has been since day 1.
It wasn’t about rewarding or making moves for Hamas, it was about turning the tide of collective west opinion turning against Israel who didn’t want any kind of ceasefire.
@Grok In the past 2 years has Israel broken a ceasefire? And did Israel kill Hamas negotiators before ceasefire meetings?
In November 2023, there was a temporary ceasefire with prisoner swap that did not lead to the end of the war In January 2025, the exact same deal we see now was implemented and fell apart in March Israel is CURRENTLY bombing Gaza Why is this any different?
Without Christ, every attempt to build peace is built on sand. The same goes for politics - like Reform, it might look solid for a while, but without faith at the foundation, it won’t last.
Secretary rubio has been bribed by the Israel lobby in America to the tune of millions. He doesn't work for America he works for Israel.
It’s a Hudna. They’ll regroup and start again. Funding will pour in and it will be diverted. Iranian ayatollahs still in power. Nothing will change. Except the idea of a 2-state solution. That’s dead.
Yes, but this came directly because of the G7 ramping up pressure. The impetus for Netanyahu to sign a deal like this is that he risks further international alienation.
Starmer’s done the right thing. It’s not his fault that The Populist Putinesque Post-Soviet of Reform has no such conception.
Nah it was exact opposite. They realised they had some support do agreed to talk.
You can sway that, but 150 countries recognise the Palestine state and an agreement is reached.
I think Rubio is great. Best White House administration ever!
"In your lifetime"? Were you not alive in 1995, then?
And none of it had anything to do with you or your party.
The European approach to solving the Israeli Palestinian conflict has only made it more complicated Starmer and Macron and the likes have only encouraged H*m*s by recognising a Palestinian state Glad to see a peace deal made by POTUS
Closer to peace. Yeah right. I have some magic beans to sell you.
