If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem? Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in? And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?

You can get anywhere you need to on a state highway, we are highly and increasingly urbanized, and freight can go on trains or on coastal shipping if we want to boost capacity greatly There's not a good case for any more or new highways

Truly remarkable how much this has grown over the past decade. The very best legacy of @AklTransport

Public transport across Tāmaki Makaurau is actually much better than most people think.

My fave thing is all the people in the Herald comments saying cycleways are pushed by the 'ideological left'. When these are the initial paragraphs of my article😂

It took a long time, but today I published this Spinoff Cover Story about my visit to Sen̓áḵw – and why it matters for iwi-led housing in New Zealand. thespinoff.co.nz/atea/03-11-202…

Oh, people in Wellington are complaining about a six-storey apartment building? Anyway, I'm on top of a 39-storey tower in the Sen̓áḵw development in Vancouver. It's built on Squamish Nation reserve land, which is exempt from city zoning and functionally NIMBY-proof.

It's incredibly difficult to create economic or cultural clusters, at least on a world class level. You can't easily create a New Orleans-level jazz scene in Montana, just as you can't easily create the 1970s and 80s NYC art scene in Idaho. Not only did local residents…

who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.
