Hearing the testimony of 3 incredibly brave survivors of police perpetrated domestic abuse at today’s report launch highlighted how depressingly slow change has been. 4 years. Little to no change. This needs to be a priority, these recommendations need complete support.
🧵Our new report – published today - reveals shocking levels of domestic abuse by police officers continues and police forces are struggling to tackle the abuse of power or recognise that abuse off duty must be addressed. centreforwomensjustice.org.uk/ppda
We are supporting West #Northamptonshire Council to understand the needs of local residents who have experienced #domesticabuse. If you or someone you know lives or works in the area please help us hear from local people.
Domestic abuse can affect anyone of any age, but we know people over 50 may be less likely to seek help. If you have experienced harmful behaviour, we want to hear from you. Please complete our survey to help shape how we support people in future - ow.ly/5aHO50ToZT1
Respect in politics is the cornerstone to preventing abuse, harassment and intimidation. We worked with the LGA to create a tool for councils to self assess their response which launched today: local.gov.uk/publications/e…
Nine years ago today, Jo Cox made her maiden speech in Parliament as MP for Batley and Spen. From 21-23 June, over what would have been Jo’s 50th birthday, #GreatGetTogether events around the UK will celebrate her message: "We have more in common than that which divides us."💜
Launched today - Pleased to have supported the @LGAcomms to develop this really important toolkit for councils to self-assess their approach to supporting councillors with abuse and intimidation. Given the upcoming election, all councils should be thinking about this.
We have launched our ending abuse in public life council self-assessment toolkit. This resource is designed to aid councils in tackling abuse and intimidation that councillors may encounter as part of their role. #DebateNotHate local.gov.uk/publications/e…

These charging decisions following an incident of racial abuse are shocking. Criminalising Black women when they call out racism only entrenches cultures of white supremacy further, and dismisses the significant traumatic impacts of racism on marginalised people.
A statement from our Executive Director, @SELMATAHA8, on the shocking developments around the racist attack on her and her friends on the tube in Sep 2023. In solidarity ✊
Black women being criminalised for resisting violent racism is further victimising them through state and structural violence. This is beyond appalling, it’s dangerous and a gross misuse of power. #IStandWithSelmaTaha and her friends.

Our next free program for Black and Racialised domestic abuse survivors starts in June on zoom. To self refer or refer someone you know with permission please email [email protected] and we will send you booking link! @rockpoollife @SuePenna1 @nicolejacobsST
#TacticTuesday: Who, what, how—three simple questions with profound implications for your #needsassessment. Engage diverse stakeholders, frame focused learning questions, and choose the right methods for intelligent data collection. #DataCollection #StrategicPlanning
#TacticTuesday: Quantitative data can't tell the whole story for your #NeedsAssessment. Embrace qualitative methods like observations and listening exercises to capture the nuances and complexities of the issues you're assessing. #QualitativeData #HolisticApproach

I’ve fixed it. This is what we actually want. An ambition for us to feel safe whilst we’re actually the opposite is playing in to the ‘overly emotional women’ narrative/borderline gaslighting. To make us actually safe, your focus needs to stretch beyond CCTV/more police.
Then you should start with the men making them ‘actually’ unsafe. Women ‘feel’ unsafe because they are. Wanting women to be safe is an outcome we can all agree with, but the objective to achieve it has to start with solving the problem. Not putting a plaster on it.
To make women ‘feel’ safe is beyond patronising, it actually puts women at risk if they aren’t ‘actually’ safe. The issue of women’s trust in police is well founded & means more of them won’t improve either feelings or actual safety. The system and culture needs shifting.
I want women in London to feel safe. That is why, as Mayor, I will prioritise getting more police on the beat, get more CCTV cameras in the Underground and appoint a women’s commissioner.
#TacticTuesday Take a #holistic approach to #datacollection. Consider experiences, perspectives, and contexts to gain a deeper understanding of the issues at hand. We have data gathering #checklists to help you make the most of this stage of your #NeedsAssessment.
#TacticTuesday: Qualitative data adds nuance to understanding. Dive into experiences, perspectives, & contexts for a comprehensive view. E.g in @Torbay_Council we conducted in depth interviews with 25 #survivors. Their stories shaped how we interpreted #quantitative service data.
Starting our Tuesday off at @WestBerkshire #domesticabuse partnership board to present their final strategy. Really pleased with feedback from partners which welcomed how our work has synthesised a complex strategy area in to a clear, concise and actionable #strategy.
Every Tuesday we share useful tips & resources for people working strategically to create social change. This week the focus is on the first stage of conducting a good needs assessment, by thinking about types of data you need to gather to add meaning to your quantitative capture
For todays #TacticTuesday were focussing on some of our #toptips to conduct a good needs assessment. Stage 1 is #evidencegathering. Quantitative data is just one piece of the puzzle. But remember not to overlook the power of qualitative data in understanding complex issues.

He wasn’t a former police officer, he is now, he wasn’t then. A play on words and an attempt to distance ourselves at this stage is disappointing IMO.
