If you're interested in the Gothic AND/OR the future of American democracy, why not give it a shot? cambridge.org/core/elements/…

I'm looking to crowdsource some suggestions for a writing course I'm teaching. Give me your favorite essay/s, new and/or old. Some authors I'm already considering: W.E.B Du Bois, George Orwell, James Baldwin, Susan Sontag, Robin Kimmerer, Thomas King, Zadie Smith.

You know, I was lukewarm on #3BodyProblem, but it really picks up by the fifth episode.

Well now that's cool. Thanks to @CambridgeUP for these awesome physical copies of my new book. Get yours at the following link: doi.org/10.1017/978100…

I wonder the same re: ecological issues. I remember that brief yet hopeful time when the lockdown reduced carbon emissions and the utopians among us (myself included) hoped it might give us a chance to reset. Four years later, emissions have only ramped up.

Watched the first episode of #3BodyProblem and its... ok? The book wasn't perfect either, but its surreal moments somehow felt more existentially terrifying, whereas the show feels corny by comparison.

Good to see I'm not the only one who has noticed this. I was starting to think I was being sent holy messages (Not really... But maybe?)

On the one hand I am deeply concerned about AI and its power to exploit the hard work of artists and to inundate the internet with garbage. On the other hand, it's also sublimely hilarious to see images like this suggested to me on FB with legions of devout bots commenting.

Finally reading The Tempest, and I gotta say, this sent shivers up my spine: Full fathom five thy father lies; Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange.

it is interesting how AI erasing or negatively stereotyping people of color was dismissed as a minor/fixable bug or nonissue by some of the same folks who see AI erasing white men as somewhere between a crime against humanity and the downfall of civilization
