If you live in the West, no book has had a greater effect on your life than the Bible. You don’t have to have read it, or even know the first thing about it, for that to be true.

We're delighted to announce that the National Church Service from the Church of England on August 9th will be led by Revd Dr Lee Gatiss, Director of Church Society. It will be available from 9am on Sunday and we hope that many of you will join us. churchofengland.org/more/media-cen…

We over-romanticize calling, as if it’s something we should naturally desire. Moses gave excuses. Gideon doubted and asked for a sign. Jonah fled. Jesus asked for his cup to pass. Calling often looks more like an unwanted cross to carry than a choice to consider.

Be so thought through and strong in your own biblical convictions, that you can listen and be generous to others without compromise. churchsociety.org/blog/entry/a_t… @ChurchSociety

Of all those books I have read Destiny, and it is fantastic and refreshing. One of the few books which has had a long-term effect on how I view life! So often I catch myself thinking “Am I really savouring this as a gift from God, or is this just another means of gain?”

Have you listened to Lee Gatiss's talk on episcopacy and evangelical leadership yet? Hard-hitting and thought-provoking, this needs to be heard, considered, prayed about, and acted on: soundcloud.com/churchsociety/…

RIP Sir Roger Scruton, a man of immense courage, intellect and fortitude, whose loss we can ill afford in these narrow, conformist times.

Very excited to see this film after this review by @roddreher “It’s without question a masterpiece, one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen, and to my mind, the best evocation of the Gospel ever committed to film” theamericanconservative.com/dreher/the-mir…

.@ClarkeMicah you’ve mentioned the 1953 deposing of the Iranian PM previously and saw it as a US coup - thoughts on this thread?

As a matter of fact, the Conservative has exactly the same error as the Progressive. It consists in the fact that each of them allows truth to be determined by time. That is, he judges a thing by whether it is of yesterday or today or tomorrow, and not by what it is in eternity.

Who do you mean by 'we'? Were you raring to go personally? Or did you want to send some other mother's sons? If so, surely the pronoun 'they' would be more accurate.

@ClarkeMicah Should we have intervened to have prevented the Rwandan genocide?

.@ClarkeMicah my vote for the Tories this election as the ‘lesser of two evils’ is producing regret far quicker than I imagined... I don’t trust Boris at all to keep us out of this bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid…

. @AndrewYang you’ve stumped Nate on #YangGang fundraising power

3. All that said, the 4Q numbers we've seen so far seem broadly in line with reasonable expectations given what else we knew about the race, e.g. that Bernie gained in the polls while Warren lost quite a bit of ground. The exception I think is Yang? (I was not expecting $16.5m.)

Interesting piece from @ClarkeMicah. What strikes me however is that the idealism of the Left is replaced with another - the idealism of the what-might-have-beens. The world he suggests would exist without the War is not assured and unpredictable - many things could gone wrong

Literally the most encouraging story I have heard about Trump as president.
