On 28-Jan-86, 8:39am PST, Space Shuttle Challenger launched, then catastrophically exploded 73s later. I watched this devastating event from a DOE lab. Eons from now, may the 7 astronauts' atoms fuel new stars, their bravery eternally lighting the cosmos. #ChallengerRemembered
The sky started off cloudy, gradually becoming even more overcast. Just when it seemed like the clouds would obscure the eclipse at its peak, they suddenly cleared. This may be the billionth photo shared of the event, but the awe of such an incredible eclipse never diminishes.
It’s been hot the last few days & poor Tristan has had to listen to every variation of a talk I’m preparing on special relativity. But now it’s cooler, breezy & no more science talk. Just relax a bit in the cool breeze.
My two favorite astro loving beagles were observing planets with me earlier this morning and are now on squirrel patrol – their day job between treats, meals, naps and various mischief they get into. Life is great with beagles! #Beagles
After 30 days, the James Webb Space Telescope has arrived at L2, its new home in space, ~932,000 miles from home. Amazing!! In 4-6 months we’ll begin to see some very cool science being conducted by this magnificent space telescope. Congrats NASA + Partners. #JamesWebb #NASA

A quick iPhone photo I took of a halo around the Sun this afternoon. The halo had distinct rainbow like colors, though not easy to see in the photo, as light from the Sun interacted with ice crystals high in the atmosphere. Very cool to see. #Sun #SolarHalo
