चाकरी chākarī in the sense of "service" is a common word in many of south Asian languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali etc. Its connected with the word चाकर cākar (servant) which is originally from #Sogdian (a central Asian language) 1/3
@avtansa is there usage in other Southasian languages for चाकरी - the Nepali meaning would be to pay court to, to wait on, suck up to, pay obeisance to someone more power ?
