Lost our dog Ruby this summer. 11 years of being greeted the same way every day, regardless of what uniform I wore or what kind of day I had. Funny how a dog can teach you more about consistent leadership than most management books. Some losses make you reconsider things.

President Jimmy Carter has died at 100 years old. I am happy for him. Several years ago his wife died at the age of 96. For the past year Pres. Carter has been in hospice care. Mr. President, Sir, I hope your reunion with your wife is beautiful and eternal. Rest, Sir, rest.

I have now lost two nonpartisan elections in the past year. It's bums me out but I was able to better understand my community and my own goals. Big thanks to the people who supported our campaign.
