Let's all agree: "Product Requirements Document" is a terrible name for that deliverable. The goal is to create a shared understand of the problem that the team is trying to solve. One company I was at called it an "initiation document". What do you think it should be called?

Here's a key question I use to help organizations start thinking differently about the shift from output to outcomes. Instead of asking "what are we going to build?" ask, "If we build the right thing, what will people (our users, customers, staff, et al) be doing differently?"

Start AND END every design project with watching people. And do it often in the middle.

1. One of my big memories from design school was when the prof (Dan Boyarski) told us to start our big project not by sketching or brainstorming. Instead he told us to leave the studio and GO WATCH PEOPLE. Watch ppl do whatever it was our design was supposed to make better.

1. The most uncomfortable part of good #prodmgmt for most ppl is talking to customers. It doesn’t matter if you’re a founder, a sr product manager, or an MBA student. This is very hard. And it’s not about corporate systems and policies. It’s the possibility of being wrong. /2
